From our Execs

Hello Lovers,

We hope you had a merry Christmas and have started a happy New Year! We just returned from celebrating the New Year with our parents. For us Christmas is definitely a time to spend with our extended family. It is also a time to reflect on the previous year, and look at how we would like this year to be different. After much consideration the Rockford/Madison/Milwaukee area is offering 7 weekends this year, up from 6 last year. We are also working with the Chicago/Gary area and the Joliet Diocese to make sure that most of the months have one or more weekends. So when you mention attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend, don’t forget the other areas and their dates.

A part of the Weekend that we enjoy is the "Greet on." Any couple can show up the Friday night of the Weekend and help greet couples. It reminds us how nervous we were on our Weekend, and how doing something simple like carrying luggage can get the Weekend off on the right foot for a couple. That’s part of being community. And what better way to share your couple love with others! This is especially true during the Christmas season. And as we were reminded at our children’s Christmas pageant, we should treat every day like Christmas day. By greeting the arriving couples with Christmas joy we can fulfill the commandment that Jesus gave to us to “love one another as I have loved you.” We can be Jesus’ hands and feet and heart in the world today.

The year is just beginning so there are many events to look forward to. Watch the eSpirit for information on the Putt’n on the Ritz dance, the Marriage Encounter campout, the Section Convention, and Marriage Enrichments in the Rockford/Madison/Milwaukee and surrounding areas.

All our love,
Garry & Arla

Inviting idea of the month

What are you going to do with all those wonderful and shiny new date cards?  Pass them out of course.  And what a better way to do it than in paying your bills.  That's right, this is the month when all those pesky Christmas purchases appear on our credit card bills. So, why not include a "gift-date" card!  Remember, we never know how God is going to use us to spread His Word.

Pray the Rosary

Does your community meet to pray the Rosary for the sake of the Worldwide Marriage Encounter Movement? If you do, let The eSpirit know, so they can post it. If you don't, please think about starting one.

The Presenting Team community prays the Rosary at 7:00 pm on the 1st Thursday of every month. The evening is open to all Encountered couples and their families. We all know the power of prayer, so pray the Rosary as often as you can.

Check the web site for more information on location and dates or call Ben & Jane Deutsch at (630) 377-0635.

Marriage Encounter "Joy Jobs"

Is the Spirit calling you to be more involved in the WWME movement?
The Rockford/Madison/Milwaukee Marriage Encounter Community is in great need of couples who ant to be more actively involved in changing the world one couple at a time! Listed below are some of the ways you can help. If you have any questions about any of these jobs or if you're a Community Leader and have a couple in mind that you think would be a great asset to any of these communities please contact Ben & Jane Deutsch at (630) 377-0635 for more information.

Media Coordinators: This couple would be responsible for planning and placing ads in different Catholic publications. They would also explore other media vehicles for getting the WWME word out to people.

Please prayerfully consider one of these or other roles within our Worldwide Marriage Encounter community. Also, please take the time to complete our survey so that you can "Share Your Couple Love" with the community at large.

Joke of the Day

A blonde female Sheriff's deputy pulls over a blonde in a convertible sports car for speeding. She walks up to the car and asks the blonde for her driver's license.

The blonde convertible driver searches through her purse in vain. Finally she asks, "What does it look like?"

The blonde deputy tells her, "It's that thing with your picture on it."

The blonde driver searches for a few more seconds, pulls out her compact, opens it and sure enough sees herself. She hands the compact to the blonde deputy.

After a few seconds looking at the compact, the blonde deputy rolls her eyes, hands the compact back to the blonde convertible driver and says, "If you would have told me you were a law enforcement officer when I first pulled you over we could have avoided this whole thing."
